The Companion: an AI customer engagement portal and app for a heritage Ayurveda clinic

A heritage Ayurveda clinic in Kerala has treated patients for well over a century. Its physicians hold generations of knowledge, but until now that knowledge was reachable only in person or by phone, between 8am and 8pm. Luure.ai designed and built the Companion, an AI-powered customer engagement platform that makes the clinic's expertise available to every patient, in their own language, at any hour, and turns each conversation into a product order, a doctor's appointment or a human follow-up.

The challenge

The clinic's website listed products but could not take an order or a payment. Every customer question, such as "Is this right for me?" or "How do I take it?", became a phone call or a WhatsApp message that a staff member had to answer. Appointments were booked by phone, online consultations existed but were not bookable online, and past patients were never reminded, updated or brought back. After clinic hours, nothing answered at all.

The solution: an assistant with a store behind it

Instead of a conventional online store with a chat widget bolted on, we made the conversation the front door. A customer opens the app, the web portal or the clinic's WhatsApp number and simply says what is on their mind. The Companion listens, asks what a good front-desk person would ask, answers from the clinic's own knowledge, and then does one of three things:

  1. Leads to a product. It suggests the right medicine with the physician-approved dosage guidance, adds it to the cart and completes payment inside the chat.
  2. Books a doctor. When the case needs a physician, or the customer asks for one, it shows real availability, books an in-clinic or video consultation, collects the fee through the payment gateway and confirms on WhatsApp.
  3. Hands over to a person. Anything outside its scope goes to the clinic team with a summary of the conversation, live during working hours and as a callback request after.

Everything a modern ecommerce platform offers is included: catalogue, checkout with UPI, cards, net banking and cash on delivery, GST invoicing, customer accounts, order tracking and subscriptions. The difference is that customers rarely have to find it; the assistant brings it to them.

Key features

Clinic-owned knowledge base with physician approval

Product monographs, dosages, contraindications, treatments, doctor profiles and FAQs are written once in English and approved by a named physician before the assistant may use them. The assistant reads this content at answer time and cites it, so every answer can be traced to a source the clinic wrote. A change a doctor makes in the morning is what customers hear by afternoon.

Every Indian language, one knowledge base

The assistant replies in whatever language the customer writes (Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu and more, in native script or Roman letters), translating the clinic's English content live. Dosage instructions and safety warnings are translated once and verified by the clinic's own doctors. The full interface ships in English, Malayalam and Tamil, with further languages added as the clinic expands.

Physician and consultation management

Clinic staff manage doctors, locations, weekly availability, leave, in-clinic and online slots, and consultation fees, with a clinic default and per-doctor rates for senior physicians and specialists. Video consultations run inside the app with reminders, rescheduling and refunds. Each doctor has a panel showing appointments, the patient's chat summary and order history, and can send recommendations with a dosage schedule that becomes the patient's basket.

Medicine schedule and refill reminders

Patients receive dose-time reminders (morning and evening, before or after food, exactly as prescribed) on WhatsApp or in the app, plus a refill reminder before the pack runs out and one-tap reorder or monthly subscription.

Guardrails built for a medical business

The assistant never diagnoses or promises cures, recognises red-flag symptoms and routes them to a physician, keeps consult-only products behind a consultation, carries the clinic's disclaimer on every medicine answer, and always offers a human. Online consultations follow AYUSH telemedicine guidelines; health data is handled with consent, encryption and audit logs under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act.

One assistant, every channel

Web portal, iOS and Android apps, and the clinic's WhatsApp Business number share one assistant and one back office. Voice input serves customers who prefer to speak.

Back office first

We built the admin console (orders, inventory with batch and expiry, GST invoicing, customer records, knowledge base editor, physician schedules, conversation review and reports) before any customer-facing screen, so clinic staff were fluent in the system before the public launch.

Outcomes the platform is designed to deliver

  • Customer questions answered 24 × 7 in the customer's language, from physician-approved content
  • Every conversation ending in an order, an appointment or a human follow-up
  • Consultation-to-purchase in one flow, with recommendations arriving as a ready basket
  • Recurring revenue from refill subscriptions and dose reminders that improve adherence
  • A growing knowledge base, driven by the queue of questions the assistant could not yet answer
  • Full ownership: cloud, WhatsApp, payment and AI accounts in the clinic's name; all data stays with the clinic

How can I improve my business with AI?

For most businesses, the quickest return from AI is not a research project. It is the everyday conversations with customers: the questions, orders, bookings and follow-ups that take up your team's day. This project shows six practical ways AI can help, and each one applies well beyond healthcare.

  1. Answer customer questions 24 × 7, in their language. An assistant grounded in your own approved content replies instantly, at any hour, in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, English and more, instead of customers waiting for office hours.
  2. Turn conversations into sales. When a customer asks about a need, the assistant recommends the right product, adds it to the cart and takes payment in the same chat.
  3. Automate bookings and payments. Appointments, consultations or services are booked against real availability and paid for online, with confirmations on WhatsApp.
  4. Bring customers back. Reminders, refills and subscriptions turn one-time buyers into repeat customers without anyone on your team chasing them.
  5. Free your team for the conversations that matter. Routine questions are handled automatically; anything complex is handed to a person with a summary of the conversation.
  6. Learn what your customers really want. Every question the assistant could not answer shows you a gap in your content, your products or your service.

How to start: pick one customer interaction that is frequent and repetitive, ground the AI in your own content rather than the open internet, keep a human in the loop, and measure the result in orders, bookings and response times.

Frequently asked questions

How can I improve my business with AI?

Start with your customer conversations. An AI assistant grounded in your own content can answer questions 24 × 7 in the customer's language, recommend and sell products, book appointments with payment, send reminders that bring customers back, and hand complex cases to your team with a summary.

Is this just a generic chatbot?

No. The assistant answers only from content your business has written and approved, and cites it. It does not make things up from the open internet, and it always offers a human.

Can an AI assistant take orders and bookings on WhatsApp?

Yes. The same assistant runs on your website, your WhatsApp Business number and iOS and Android apps, with one back office for orders, payments and appointments.

Does it work in Malayalam and other Indian languages?

Yes. It replies in the language the customer writes in, including Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Telugu, in native script or Roman letters.

Who owns the data and accounts?

Your business does. Cloud, WhatsApp, payment and AI accounts are set up in your name, and all customer data stays with you.
